Recently I have been involved in some collaborative work. Northumbria University invited me to collaborate with Yoshie Kawamura, an exceptional pianist. This is a new but very exciting time in my training! Artistically we have been given free rein to create a piece in which Miss. Kawamura will perform onstage and I will perform some original choreography created specifically for this event.

Together we decided to work with Sergei Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives. These short piano works are incredibly stimulating to listen to as well as highly inspiring to me as a choreographer. We also decided to use the idea of ‘paradox’ as a theme for our piece. This allows me to create something unique and explore new movement ideas and qualities. I am particularly looking forward to this! Following our performance, there shall be a conversation between audience members, Miss. Kawamura, myself and critically acclaimed author David Almond. Answering questions and hearing the audience’s views on our piece and issues within the world of art will be an educational and fascinating time!

As well as working together for our performance of Paradox in June 2015, we also worked together on a piece of work I created for my Independent Dance Project entitled Fantasies of the Four Temperaments. In this piece the dancers worked with Miss. Kawamura in the studio and then they performed together live onstage. Miss. Kawamura and I worked closely outside of the studio where we created a new musical arrangement using Mozart’s Fantasies. Working with an artist who was equally as passionate about her art form was very inspiring time and I gained not only new creative skills but made wonderful memories.

Working collaboratively with artists from other areas is a very exciting prospect and one that I would love to pursue further.
